SIDE EFFECTS OF ZILEUTON
The side effects mentioned here, if arise should be informed
to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as it
occurs: chest pain, difficulty breathing, wheezing, flu-like
symptoms (chills, fatigue, fever, muscle aches), nausea,
pruritus, skin rash or itching, unusual weakness or
tiredness, yellowing of the skin. The side effects that
usually do not require medical attention include: back pain,
dizziness, drowsiness, dyspepsia, headache, insomnia,
numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, stomach pain and
weakness.
DOSAGE OF ZILEUTON
Take Zileuton tablets by mouth by following the directions
on the prescription label. Take your doses at regular
intervals i.e at the same time in a day. Zileuton may be
taken with meals and at bedtime. Do not take Zileuton
medicine more often than directed. The following information
includes only the average doses of Zileuton and If your dose
is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you
to do so.
For adults and children 12 years of age and older, 600
milligrams (mg) 4 times per day.
For Children up to 12 years of age—The usage and dose must
be determined by your doctor.
USAGE OF ZILEUTON
Zileuton is used in patients with mild to moderate chronic
asthma to decrease the symptoms of asthma and the number of
acute asthma attacks. In its pivotal trials in adult asthma,
Zileuton has shown to bring the greatest benefit to those
with the most severe disease. Zileuton is not used for acute
relief of asthma symptoms but chronic treatment with
Zileuton allows reduction of other therapies such as oral
steroids, which have unwanted side effects.
